Louis Vuitton Vintage Monogram Petit Noé Bucket Bag

The Archive 

The Noé is one of Louis Vuitton’s most recognizable archival designs, originally created in 1932 as a practical carrier for bottles of Champagne. Its drawstring construction eventually became one of the house’s enduring handbag silhouettes and helped establish the bucket bag as a luxury staple.

This vintage Petit Noé takes that utilitarian design and scales it into an exceptionally wearable shoulder bag. Classic Monogram canvas is paired with an unusually substantial natural Vachetta leather base, drawstring trim and adjustable shoulder strap. On this example, the Vachetta has developed a rich honey-golden patina that gives the bag exactly the character collectors look for in vintage Louis Vuitton.

Condition report

Good vintage condition with visible age and patina. 8.10 The Monogram coated canvas remains strong with good definition throughout, showing light surface wear and rubbing primarily around the lower perimeter and high-contact areas.

The natural Vachetta has developed a deep, warm honey patina with visible water marks, scratches, scuffing and darker areas of use. The large leather base shows particularly noticeable staining, scratching, surface marks and tonal variation, as photographed. The shoulder strap shows creasing, darkening and edge wear from use. Drawstring and leather trim show similar age-related patina. Brass-tone hardware has developed natural oxidation and surface wear. Interior textile shows general signs of previous use and light marking.

Curators Perspective 

The Noé is one of those rare Louis Vuitton bags whose history is every bit as interesting as its silhouette. I particularly like the Petit Noé because it retains the proportions and recognizable drawstring construction of the original while being much easier to wear every day. The aged Vachetta is part of the appeal here—it gives the bag the unmistakable look of authentic vintage Louis Vuitton rather than trying to appear new.
