Loewe Amazona 28 Leopard Calf Hair & Black Leather Bag

The Archive 

The Amazona is one of Loewe’s defining archival handbags, introduced in the 1970s and built around a deceptively simple idea: a beautifully constructed, functional top-handle bag that showcased the house’s leather craftsmanship. Its rectangular silhouette, double handles, wraparound zip and signature padlock became some of Loewe’s most recognizable design codes.

This leopard version is an especially striking interpretation of the Amazona 28. The body is rendered in tactile leopard-print calf hair and framed in substantial black leather, with gold-tone hardware and the signature Loewe padlock. Condition Report

Very good pre-owned condition 8.3/10. The leopard calf hair remains remarkably full and vibrant across the front and back with natural directional variation to the pile and light signs of handling.

Black leather handles, corner reinforcements, piping and side panels show light creasing, rubbing and surface wear, with more noticeable wear along portions of the piping and high-contact edges. Gold-tone hardware remains bright with light scratching and surface wear. The bag maintains its structured Amazona silhouette, and the protective feet, padlock and clochette are present as photographed.

Curators Perspective 

This is the kind of Amazona that makes the archive interesting. The silhouette is unmistakably Loewe, but leopard calf hair takes it far outside the expected neutral leather version. The contrast between the graphic animal print, black leather structure and polished gold hardware gives it a strong early-2000s-to-2010s luxury sensibility while still feeling remarkably current. With animal print returning repeatedly to the runway, this is a far more collectible choice than a standard leather Amazona.
