Dating to 1991–1994, this structured black caviar tote comes from the Karl Lagerfeld era and makes its statement through not one, but Eight oversized gold-tone interlocking CCs positioned across the lower front , and back and side of the bag,
The combination is quintessential vintage Chanel: richly textured black caviar leather, bold gold hardware, leather-woven chain detailing and an unmistakably ’90s silhouette. The elongated leather shoulder straps give it an elegant 15-inch drop while the chain sections keep that classic Chanel jewelry-like element.
What makes this one especially interesting is that it isn't another flap. It has recognizable Chanel house codes while still feeling unusual—and increasingly, those are the vintage pieces I find most exciting to source.

The black caviar leather retains its beautiful pebbled texture and overall structure. There is visible surface wear, rubbing and tonal variation throughout the exterior, including areas where the black finish has softened with use. Edge and corner wear is present.

Curators Perspective
If you only look at vintage Chanel flaps, you miss some of Karl Lagerfeld's most interesting work.
This is exactly why I love sourcing Chanel from the early ’90s.
Karl took the house's interlocking CC and wasn't afraid to make it bold, decorative and impossible to miss. Here, three oversized CCs become part of the architecture of the bag rather than simply serving as a closure.
And then you have the material: vintage Chanel caviar. It's durable, beautifully textured and particularly desirable in black paired with that rich gold-tone hardware.
But what really sells this piece for me is rarity of design. You can find another black Chanel flap. Finding another early-’90s black caviar tote with three oversized CCs marching across the front? That's a different sourcing conversation.
