Chanel Vintage Burgundy Lambskin Medium Classic Double Flap

This is quintessential Karl Lagerfeld-era Chanel: the Medium Classic Double Flap rendered in rich burgundy lambskin with the deeply saturated gold hardware associated with vintage Chanel. The 10-inch proportions, diamond quilting, leather-woven chain, Mona Lisa back pocket and double-flap construction are all hallmarks of the house’s most enduring handbag design.

The tonal burgundy interior is particularly beautiful on this example, creating a nearly monochromatic leather body against the warm gold hardware. While the serial sticker is no longer present, the construction, proportions and details are consistent with vintage examples from the early 1990s. Because the sticker is missing, I would keep the listing conservatively dated rather than assigning an exact year.

Condition report 

 Very good vintage condition with visible age-related wear. 8/10 The burgundy lambskin remains supple with strong diamond quilting, while showing creasing, surface rubbing and areas of patina variation throughout. The back shows additional creasing and surface wear around the Mona Lisa pocket, Bag is in original condition NO repaint.

The gold-tone hardware remains bright with surface scratching and normal age-related wear. Interior leather shows creasing, scratches and handling wear. The serial sticker is missing. Overall, the bag retains a beautiful vintage presentation while clearly showing the patina expected from a well-used early Chanel Classic.

Curator’s Perspective

Burgundy is one of the colors that makes vintage Chanel especially compelling—it has the versatility of a neutral but feels much more distinctive than black. This example also has the softer, less rigid character collectors associate with well-aged vintage lambskin. The visible wear is part of its story, but the rich color, classic proportions and warm vintage hardware still give the bag tremendous presence.
