This is an especially collectible piece of late-1980s/early-1990s Chanel: a miniature quilted flap bag incorporated into a substantial leather-woven chain belt. At only three inches wide, the tiny pouch recreates the house’s handbag codes on an almost jewelry-like scale—diamond-quilted black lambskin, a miniature gold CC closure and the unmistakable interwoven chain.

What makes the piece particularly special is the belt itself. Rather than simply attaching a small pouch to a leather strap, Chanel constructed it around the same leather-threaded chain associated with its handbags, finishing the long 39-inch chain with additional CC hardware. It sits at the intersection of handbag, belt and statement jewelry—exactly the kind of playful transformation of Chanel iconography that defined Karl Lagerfeld’s early years at the house

Condition Report

Good vintage condition with visible wear consistent with age 7.9/10. The black lambskin shows overall softening, creasing, surface rubbing and finish variation, with more noticeable wear along the flap piping, edges and corners. The diamond quilting has softened and flattened with age while remaining clearly defined.

The leather woven through the chain shows creasing and surface wear. The 24K gold-plated chain and CC hardware retain a rich gold appearance with scratches and age-related wear. The serial sticker is no longer present. The pouch and chain components appear intact.

Curators Perspective 

This is much more interesting than a conventional Chanel belt. The tiny functioning flap turns one of Chanel’s most recognizable handbag silhouettes into wearable jewelry, while the oversized length of leather-woven chain gives it the boldness associated with Lagerfeld-era Chanel. Pieces like this capture the humor and excess of early-1990s Chanel particularly well—and the miniature bag format feels remarkably current again.
