Bottega Veneta Intrecciato Large Knot Hobo — Olive Green Nappa Leather

The Archive 

This bag comes from the Tomas Maier era of Bottega Veneta, when the house became synonymous with quiet luxury built around exceptional leatherwork rather than visible logos. The defining feature is Bottega’s Intrecciato technique, but here the weaving becomes part of the architecture of the bag itself. Hundreds of narrow strips of supple nappa leather form the body, handles and even the oversized sculptural knot at the center.

The Knot Hobo is especially distinctive because of that dramatic gathered center. The leather folds inward and crosses over itself, creating a softly sculpted bow-like knot while allowing the rest of the bag to fall into an exaggerated, relaxed hobo shape. This large version makes the craftsmanship particularly impressive—the bag is nearly 20 inches across, yet remains soft and fluid rather than structured. The muted olive green is also beautifully suited to the design, developing tonal variation and patina that emphasizes the individual woven strips rather than hiding them. This style is documented within Bottega Veneta's 2000s-era Intrecciato Knot Hobo family.

Condition Report

Good pre-owned condition with a beautifully developed vintage patina. The woven leather shows visible rubbing, color variation and finish loss, particularly along the lower corners, braided perimeter, raised edges of the weave and central knot. Additional creasing and surface wear are present throughout, with wear also visible along the handle. The suede interior shows noticeable markings, staining and signs of previous use. Despite the wear, the Intrecciato construction remains visually striking and the bag retains its wonderfully relaxed, slouchy silhouette.

Curators Perspective 

This is one of those Bottega pieces where the craftsmanship is the branding. There is no prominent logo competing for attention—the extraordinary amount of woven leather and that oversized center knot immediately identify what it is.

I especially like this example because the scale and olive color give it a very different presence from the smaller Bottega hobos. The patina is noticeable, but on this particular design it also emphasizes the handwoven construction and gives the green tremendous depth. With oversized, slouchy archival bags having returned so strongly, this feels remarkably current while still representing the understated Tomas Maier-era Bottega aesthetic.
