An icon of the early-2000s handbag era, the Balenciaga Le City became synonymous with the effortless, undone luxury that defined Nicolas Ghesquière’s years at the house.
This 2012 example is crafted in black distressed leather, with the soft, broken-in texture and slouch that collectors love about the original-era City bags. This 2012 Le City presents in very good pre-owned condition with the wonderfully relaxed character expected from this style.
The black leather remains rich and supple with visible natural grain, creasing and wrinkling throughout. The body has developed the signature slouch associated with the original City silhouette. Close inspection shows surface wear and areas of variation in the leather consistent with age and previous use.
The corners and piping show light rubbing and wear. The handles remain intact with visible wear and softening to the leather and whipstitched detailing. Hardware displays an aged patina consistent with the aesthetic of the bag.
The long leather tassels remain present, as does the removable shoulder strap and original mirror.

Curators Perspective
The City is one of those bags where perfect isn't necessarily better.
Part of what made the original Balenciaga City so desirable was exactly what you see here: thin, beautifully distressed leather that softens, wrinkles and develops personality instead of remaining structured.
And that matters right now because the City has moved beyond simply being a nostalgic Y2K bag. It has become a recognizable piece of modern fashion history, particularly as collectors have returned to the original-era versions rather than only looking at newer interpretations.
A 2012 black City is especially easy to understand from a collector and wardrobe perspective. Black is timeless, the size is exceptionally wearable, and the aged hardware and long tassels give you the unmistakable look people associate with the original Balenciaga City.
This is not the bag I would buy if I wanted pristine, untouched leather.
It's the bag I would buy because I want the slouch, the wear and the attitude that made the City iconic in the first place.
